The Appeal is embarking on a new and ambitious project to establish starter flats for young adults who have been raised within the orphanage system.

Helping them towards independent living, providing suitable accommodation and support to create a home, access employment or training are all important.

Our first apartment opened in the Spring of 2007 and is providing a home and support for 2 orphaned young adults. A support group drawing together various agencies and individuals is providing a range of support to our tenants as they gain the skills necessary for independent living.

Many young adults are currently homeless or have been living in family houses and are now ready to move onto independent living. Some live in squats and in the cities on the streets and in underground sewers.

This venture has been made possible due to a generous grant from Lloyds TSB Foundation and other fundraising efforts in Scotland.

In April 2008 we set up a Social Housing Agency with one of our European partners. This has enabled us to epand our activities and support to young orphaned adults. We currently have 7 young people living in 3 apartments and support is being provided to others to find accommodation, work or training opportunities.

Worskshop to help young adults learn the skills for independent living are ongoing in areas such as budgetting, looking after your home, cooking, being a good employee and neighbour etc.
