A Scottish Charity SC029784

The Psychaitric Hospital in Mocrea on the outskirts of Ineu featured in a damming report by Amnesty International in 2004.
COIRA has been supporting the hospital in a variety of ways. During 2006 we sent aid including hand made quilts donated by a group in Dunblane, Scotland, and mattresses donated by Furniture Plus, a Fife Charity, as well as clothing for the patients donated by Largo Baptist Church.
The slideshow illustrates these as well as the improvements carried out to the showeroom for the ladies ward which COIRA has financed.
In October 2007 we visited the hospital again after hearing reports that significant improvements had been made to the conditions of the building and the care of the patients. To our delight the hospital is almost unrecognisable and is benefitting from substantial investment from central government and European monies. Photographs to illustrate this will follow soon.
Through our network of contacts links have been made between the hospital and Weymouth and Portland community mental health team who participated in exchange visits. Efforts are being made to encourage Occupational Therapy to be introduced at Mocrea.
